I used to backup to cd's but I've lost cd's from the past that somehow become 'unreadable' on the new computer. I use Seagate externals, and always buy them in pairs - one for the data, one for the backup. I've had them occasionally fail, but never two at the same time. And the new usb3 drives are blazing fast compared to the usb2 versions.

I do have some files burned to data DVDs, but what bothered me most was the material lost from the past year or two. I do like the USB thumb drives and will get a couple of those too.
